Privacy Policy

Mecano ("Mecano", "we", "us") builds Shop, a shop-management platform for independent auto-repair shops, and Suppliers, an AI order desk for auto-parts wholesalers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how it's handled across both products and this website.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers visitors to mecano.best, shop owners and staff using Shop, and suppliers using the early access Suppliers product. It does not cover a shop's own website or communications outside of Mecano's products.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

• Account information you give us directly: name, business name, email, phone number, and billing details when you sign up or contact us.
• Business data entered into the product: repair orders, estimates, invoices, appointments, and the contact details of your own customers and their vehicles, entered by you or your staff.
• Usage and device data: pages visited, actions taken in the product, IP address, browser type, and similar diagnostic information collected automatically.

3. Who's the controller, who's the processor

For your account and billing information, Mecano is the data controller. For the information your shop enters about your own customers (their name, phone number, vehicle, and service history), your business is the controller and Mecano is the processor: we store and process that data on your behalf, to run the product, and we don't use it for our own marketing or sell it to third parties.

4. How we use information

• To provide, maintain, and secure the Shop and Suppliers products.
• To process payments and send billing communications.
• To send service notices, such as appointment confirmations and text-approval requests, on your behalf.
• To respond to support requests and improve the product.
• To meet legal and tax obligations.

5. Data storage and security

Data is stored on servers in Canada. Every shop's data is isolated at the database level, so one shop's records are never visible to another. Access is encrypted in transit, and internal access to customer data is limited to what's needed to operate and support the product.

6. Cookies

This website uses only the cookies necessary to remember your session and basic preferences (like a saved theme). We don't run third-party advertising trackers on mecano.best.

7. Third-party services

We rely on a small number of third-party providers to run the product: payment processing (Stripe), transactional email and SMS delivery, and cloud hosting and storage. These providers only receive the data needed to perform their function, under their own security and privacy commitments.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you're located, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. Shop owners can request export or deletion of their account data by contacting us; a shop's own customers should direct those requests to the shop they did business with, since the shop controls that data.

9. Data retention

We keep account and business data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure to meet legal, tax, and dispute-resolution obligations, after which it's deleted or anonymized.

10. Children's privacy

Mecano's products are built for businesses and are not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

11. Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page when this policy changes, and post material changes here before they take effect.
